REMINDER! Traffic Pattern Changes

NJDOT will be implementing traffic pattern changes where
east and westbound Route 72 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on or about Monday, October 10, 2015 weather permitting (was 10/11/16).

Please note the temporary shuttle service will continue to be implemented during the time frame the Northside side walk is closed due to construction activity.  Upon reopening of pedestrian access, the commuter shuttle will be discontinued.

Important information regarding lane width restrictions and wide load procedures during this phase of bridge construction

To All Modular Home Manufacturers/Wide Loads Exceeding 13’:
This notice is to inform you that the traffic pattern over the bridges on Route 72 in Stafford Township is changing in order to resurface existing bridges.  The easterly secondary bridges will be reduced to a lane width of 13’6” eastbound and 13’6” westbound.  The secondary bridges traveled lanes will not be divided with jersey barriers and will require all traffic to be stopped in order for wide loads exceeding 13’ to safely cross the bridges.  The secondary bridge restrictions will be effective on or about Monday October 10th.  These travel restrictions shall be cleared on or about  May 15th, 2017.
If you are delivering a modular home/wide load exceeding 13’ to Long Beach Island you MUST notify the police and arrange an escort.  On the day of the delivery when your driver reaches Route 72 in Stafford Township there is a wide shoulder prior to the westernmost eastbound bridge, near Marsha Drive at mile marker 26.  All drivers are to safely pull over into this area and call 609-597-8581 to advise of your arrival and wait for a police escort to arrive.
This notice also pertains to wide loads exceeding 13’ originating on Long Beach Island such as large boats & equipment.  If you are on Long Beach Island and need to leave the island with a wide load exceeding 13’, please follow the instructions above and schedule a police escort as all eastbound traffic will need to be stopped to safely cross the bridges.  Wide load escorts will be conducted by Police Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am and 2pm only.  For more information from NJDOT please visit
